Ash Wednesday marks the start of the Holy season of Lent. This morning our school community come together to receive ashes. Our students are reminded that this season is a time for reflection and repentance. It is also a time for us to prepare for the celebration of Easter, as we make room in our hearts to receive the blessings of Jesus through his resurrection. Students in TK-8th Grade discussed their Lenten promises in class and will have them displayed on their classroom door as a daily reminder leading up to Easter.

The missions are not just symbols of California’s Spanish history, but of the profound injustices faced by indigenous people. By studying the missions, students gained a deeper appreciation for their state’s past, its cultural evolution, and the long-lasting impact of these historical sites.

In writing, the third grade class has been working hard understanding the writing process and working on paragraphs.
In science, the fourth grade class have been exploring potential and kinetic energy and applying their findings to a rollercoaster design. Both grades have been getting into the Halloween spirit during art time!#featurefriday First Grade has been working hard this month! We are learning how to make observations in science and develop our subtraction skills in mathematics. During reading, we have been working to segment sounds and distinguish long and short vowel. Art helps us unleash our creativity—these poppies really brightened our day!
#featurefriday What a month it has been! TK and Kindergarten have been up to so much, from celebrating the first day of school to making new friends, and have had lots of fun learning along the way. We’ve been learning about the primary colors, working on our sight words and the five Senses, and expressing ourselves through arts and crafts.
We are looking forward to another fantastic school year!Our 7th grade scientist did a great job exploring the anatomy of a chicken wing. They identified muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and observed how these structures work together.
Students also had the opportunity to see the ulna, radius and bone marrow. It was amazing to see everyone engaged, eager to learn and asking questions.What a way to kick off our 2024-2025 year! Yesterday, our wonderful @smbgc St. Anne Branch had their first annual Summer Kickoff! Our Elementary and Middle School soccer teams played against Mar Vista Gardens while our very own cheerleading team and many parents supported their victory! We can’t wait for future games!!

In Social Studies, the second grade class have spent the majority of the year learning about scientists, explorers, leaders, caretakers and others who set exemplary examples for being a hero of the past and present.
Their hero came alive as the class presented in a living wax museum. Some hero’s included Frida Kahlo, Jackie Robinson, Louis Pasteur and many more! It was an informative and inspiring morning for everyone involved!The 10+ year relationship with UCLA continues!! Over the past several weeks, students in the sixth and seventh grades have been studying oceans and ecosystems in preparation for their investigation with UCLA.

Over 20 students preformed last night at our first annual Talent Show! We were all smiling ear to ear seeing our wonderful students showcase their many talents. Some of the acts included singing, dancing, artists, comedians and many more. It was such a wonderful night celebrating our talented students!

They experienced how Tchaikovsky’s timeless composition inspired a revamped story for a modern audience by featuring selected pieces from the classic suite and, of course, a dancing accompaniment.
